Few days back we seen Dell urging Pakistani Bloggers to suggest a tag line for Dell Pakistan. A lot of people shown keen interest as we seen around 8000 fans of Dell Pakistan page on facebook. Now Dell has finally announced the chosen one, Ameera Kiran Khan – a Karachi based blogger, but the tag line is not up to the standard as per my point of view.

Exact stats are not known but Dell revealed that it got 350 plus response in first 24 hours of airing the patent. whatsoever is the exact amount, surely Dell would have had panelty of choices on received submissions.

Have a look at the line chosen.

IT’s TIME YOU GOT SOMETHING NEW. IT’s TIME YOU GOT A DELL.

Now let’s have a look at the characteristics of a tag line. (By Doctor Anna Murdoch)

* It should be memorable
* It should recall the brand name
* It should include a key benefit
* It should differentiate the brand
* It should impart positive feelings for the brand
* It should reflect the brand’s personality
* It should be strategic
* It should be campaignable
* It should be competitive
* It should be original
* It should be simple
* It should be neat
* It should be believable
* It should help in ordering the brand
* It should not be in current use by others
* It should not be bland, generic or hackneyed
* It should not prompt a sarcastic or negative response
* It should not be pretentious
* It should not be negative
* It should not be corporate waffle
* It should not make you say “so what?” or “ho hum”.
* It should not make you say “oh yeah??”
* It should not be meaningless
* It should not be complicated or clumsy
* You should like it

Adding something to above, I came to know by someone who is in the field that preferred tag line is always considered to be consisting of less than 9 words.

Now the selected tag line is surely on voting basis as per public opinion but Dell was the one bringing those five tag lines on air for voting.

To me this really is not a professional one as NO firm in my knowledge has such a lengthy tag line.

Apart from rivalry thinking and competition, Dell seemed to be in hurry for the voting as five best were chosen in a period of just one night. On that note the tag line by Omer Khan was really attractive and captivating.

A NEW DELL IS A DELL AWAY.

Whatsoever is the thinking at Dell’s end, we heartily congratulate Ameera on winning the competetion, standing first to have Dell Mini and Free Publicity for her blog in Dell’s upcoming campaign. We wish you best of your time with Dell Mini.
